Position Summary:
The Payroll Tax Accountant is responsible for all payroll tax activities, including compliance with local, state, and federal regulations and filing local, state, and federal payroll tax returns. The incumbent should be a highly motivated self-starter with excellent communication skills and high attention to detail. This position reports directly to the Controller.
Essential Job Functions:

Reporting and reconciliation of multi-state payroll taxes - monthly, quarterly and year end;
Research, analyze and find resolution to payroll related tax notices and inquires;
Respond by telephone or email to questions and special requests from Company clients and regulatory agencies regarding payroll taxes;
Prepare federal, state and local income tax returns, federal and state unemployment tax returns, prior quarter and year adjustments, and amended federal, state or local tax returns as well as quarterly and annual reporting packages;
Prepare and reconcile W2, W3 and 1099;
Maintenance of state unemployment rate information and communication of rate updates to all payroll units;
Assist with filing corporate documents;
Set up new clients in the software system;
Make and implement recommendations to improve accounting processes and procedures;
Perform other duties or special projects as assigned or required.
Knowledge Skills & Abilities:

2+ years of multi-state payroll tax processing experience required;
Solid experience with MasterTax or similar multi-jurisdictional payroll tax software required;
BS/BA in Accounting or Finance from an accredited school and/or 5 years of payroll tax processing experience preferred;
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to assist clients with payroll tax issues;
High attention to detail and processing diligence is a must in order to prevent company exposure to tax penalties/assessments, and to ensure a high degree of compliance with federal, state and local payroll tax regulations;
Ability to work independently, with little supervision;
Understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP);
Knowledge and ability in the use of a personal computer and software applications (e.g. Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.); 
Valid driver’s license.
