The Texas-Louisiana Gulf Coast Synod is a community of 110 ministries of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. We seek to be a network of Christ-centered, outwardly-focused congregations passing the faith to the next generation. This office helps support these congregations and extends their reach into the world. We do together what we cannot do alone.

Summary of Position

The Communications Coordinator oversees internal and external communications, while also providing administrative aid to the assistants to the bishop, support of synod events, and other office matters.


We seek a person of faith with integrity who loves the church, is highly organized, and fits into the culture to which we aspire in this office. This culture can best be described as innovative, efficient, collaborative, and hard-working. Strong skills in editing and technology are critical. Working knowledge of Wordpress and online marketing systems are strongly preferred. Spanish language skills are required. Thick skin and a soft heart are vital.


Hours are typically 9-5 M-F. Commitments beyond those hours are offset with comp time.

Outline of Responsibilities

Communications (35%)

Execution of internal and external communications strategy
Further strengthening of current communication methods (website, social media, blogs, email management system, podcast, print, photography, and videography).
Website management (Wordpress)
Editing and design of communication methods and materials
Synod marketing and outreach
Assist with audio/visual needs at synod events (synod assembly, theological conference)

General Office (35%)

Office supplies ordering
Answer phones, and assist with mailings, office needs, staff needs, etc.
Database management
Support of resource creation and updating
Support of synod strategic plan
Administrative Support for Assistants to the Bishop (30%)

Travel arrangements and scheduling
Support synod-wide events – trainings, luncheons, and educational gatherings
Financial reconciliations and support of budget management
